Vachara
Phanchet, vice president of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC)
said Gore will talk about global warming and environmental issues,
which are featured in his documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth". The
dinner event will be held on August 8, with executive guests invited to
participate.
"Global warming is a hot issue in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
We would like to alert Thai society to the dangers of global warming. A
speaker like Al Gore is very influential, especially for the business
sector. Hopefully people will become more aware of environmental issues
in Thailand," Vachara said.
PBEC has a multinational membership, including hundreds of
leading corporations in the Asia-Pacific region. The council holds its
dinner talk as an annual event in its "Global Speaker" series.
Gore has travelled the world to lecture on global warming and "An Inconvenient Truth" won an Academy Award in 2006.
Under Gore's leadership, the Save Our Selves organisation held
the recent Live Earth benefit concerts in an effort to raise awareness
about climate change. The concerts were held at different venues all
over the world on July 7.
After Al Gore's keynote speech at this year's event, PBEC will publish a brochure to disseminate his
comments along with information about global warming.
Gore's complete agenda in Bangkok has still not been revealed.
The event is sponsored by PTT, DNM Strategies, Siam Commercial?Bank,
Thai Beverage and Green Spot.
